Potluck Upchuck

After reading an essay called "Taking Potluck," my Basic Writing students thought it would be fun to have a potluck in class. Here's what ended up being on the menu (I brought Diet Coke and Sprite):

- two kinds of Doritos
- two bags of cheese puffs
- two kinds of Pringles
- one bag of Funions
- jello packs
- one small box of raisins (okay, that wuz me--I wuz never gonna eat it)
- a box of Poptarts
- two boxes of fruit roll-ups

Aw yeah...all yer basic food groups represented there. Apparently, one guy in the class wuz bringing shrimp to class, but he got in a fender-bender on the way to school. Yes, when you look at that list above, you really do have to say to yourself, "If only there wuz some shirmp to go with it..."

These are normal lunchtime meals for the budget-minded college student. Depending on how tipsy you get after a intense night of studying at the ITE or in one of those cubicle rooms at the library,
these same items are also dinner.

Budget-minded college students can not afford to eat gyros at Dino's every night, but somehow scrape up enough to buy pitcher upon pitchers of beer. It's the damndest thing you ever did see.

Who needs gyros when a package of Ramen Noodles back in the day wuz only one thin dime? Even now, it's what...a quarter? Shit, even hobos can't starve at that price. (they can get scurvy, tho').

I got an flyer from Aldi's in the mail. Ramen Noodles are $1.39 for a package of 10 at Aldi's. Add two bags of cheese puffs and couple packages of $1.50 foot long hot dogs and that's lunch and dinner for an entire week. Oh, and wash it all down with pitchers of beer.
On Saturday nights, when you feel like splurging, you have saved up enough to buy some x-large pizza at Pagliai's. Don't forget the
save $2.00 coupon from the yellow Zipsheet.
